Map St. Thomas West to Amherstburg

uppercanadawestmap 1854-crop West End-little of USA

It is difficult to know exactly what route the St. Thomas Cavalry took to reach Amherstburg in 1838 because they had to detour to different locations for accommodation and other reasons.  However in today's terms we know it is approximately 210 kilometres from St. Thomas to Amherstburg using the old Talbot Line (along the Lake) and approximately 220 kilometres using the Longwoods Road (Hwy. 3) which runs through Chatham a little farther to the north .

Samuel Williams states that they left St. Thomas on January 2nd and arrived on January 6th - travelling approximately 45 miles a day!
